GENDER CONFUSION - THE NEW APHRODISIAC
Maleen Dalan, an independent fashion designer from Norway, raised in Greece and Spain. She creates one of a kind, provocative yet romantic menswear garments. Adding a new dimension to the menswear wardrobe by using intricate detailing such as the technique of draping, the use of fabrics traditionally associated with womenswear and adding feminine shapes to the male body. With this she wishes to eliminate the rule that says if you are born a boy you have to dress and behave in a certain way.
Emotions, religion, mythology, cultures and fashion history inspire her. Even though her garments are statement pieces, she always keeps in mind the importance of comfort and wearability.
In 2006 she began her fashion design degree at Esmod Oslo, Norway. Graduated in 2009, receiving the jury president award for her menswear graduation collection Hermaphroditus. In 2006 she was invited by Saga Furs in Denmark, to develop creative fur techniques as a promising talent. As well Maleen designed a showpiece for Triumph Inspiration Award, and boxer brief prints for the norwegian label Dovre, both in 2008. August 2009 she participated at the Designer's Nest Award at Copenhagen Vision with her graduation collection. September 2009 she presented her collection at Iceland Fashion Week.
